    Re: Spring in New England

Being a born and bred New England baby, I can imagine visiting other places - but never living elsewhere. New England in the Spring may not have D.C.'s cherry trees, but it's a world that definitely should not be missed.

My own suggestion for a perfect New England spring weekend is a rental cottage at Cape Cod. It's pre-season, so you'll still get amazing rental prices (50% to 75% off the in-season prices, though the closer you get to May 31, the steeper the prices will climb). Hyannisport, Truro, Onset, Ogunquit, Wareham... even Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard are gorgeous this time of year. The weather is warm enough for suntanning at the beach without broiling, and the tourists (their own bane) haven't begun to descend en masse. Take the time to peruse community bulletin boards before making your plans. A lot of the small towns on the Cape have early season antique shows and craft fairs that you can enjoy during your visit.

Spring in New England really is the perfect time to visit... thanks for reminding me.

I actually live in New England, Rhode Island to be more specific. The springs are great, as are the autumns. The foliage is beautiful when it turns from green to yellow to orange,.

    Re: Spring in New England

I lived in Litchfield County Connecticut for a long time, and yes, Spring is the best!!!!  Of course, I can also remember raking snow off the front lawn in early May to try to get the grass to grow!  I now live in Scotland, which is some ways, is similar in climate, but the Spring here starts earlier and seems to last much longer.  The daffodils have slowly come out for weeks now and aren't gone yet ...in Connecticut, they were one big blast and gone.

Well I can't say spring here in Chicago is a beautiful thing.  I would describe it as wet and muddy, but it does have its moments.  On the other hand I have seen sprng elsewhere and know where the beautiful sprng pictures and poetry come from.

Just out of curiosity, what are winters like in New England? I know in the Canadian maritimes there are some harsh storms in winter.

Also, is there seasonal skiing downhill skiing in New England?
